Stranded by the Sea is a local yarn store in Edmonds, WA. We are a source for finished yarns, hand-dyed fibers, spinning supplies, social knitting and spinning, and education. See updates on our blog.
We offer natural yarn and supplies for knitting, crochet, felting, spinning, and other fiber arts. We also offer knitting and spinning classes. In the near future, we will add an in-store workshop and studio for students use and equipment rental for personal projects and practice outside of class time..
Our focus is on the use of natural fibers and wool, and avoiding synthetics and chemically-treated wool, for both ecological and artisan purposes. For the artisan, we will offer educational and workshop courses on production from sheep to sweater and consumer access to sustainable artisan quality materials that have been locally sourced from sheep farmers, mills, local dyers, and hand-craft producers in the area. Also, we will offer educational programming about the pollution of the waterways and the marine life from synthetic fibers and manufacturing seen both globally and here locally in the Puget Sound and Salish Sea region. Doing our small part to preserve the oceans.
Quality, reliable spinning equipment requires good craftsmanship and quality materials. We plan to provide a workshop and studio setting for people that are interested in learning to spin, so they can more readily access spinning equipment for learning how to spin. We believe that students and customers should feel comfortable and confident with their equipment. Spinning and knitting should be a life long .
